LS ELECTRIC, Infineon to jointly develop direct-current power technology for AI

LS ELECTRIC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Germany-based Infineon Technologies to jointly develop core direct-current (DC) power technologies for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.10The company said the agreement was pursued in response to rising data center power demand and the expansion of renewable energy.

The signing ceremony was held at LS ELECTRIC’s R&D Campus in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. The companies said they will cooperate across research, prototype development, and verification.

Specific development areas include power semiconductor-based DC power solutions such as power conversion systems (PCS) for energy storage systems (ESSs), semiconductor transformers, and semiconductor circuit breakers. The company explained that power semiconductor-based DC solutions reduce the number of power conversion stages, minimizing energy losses and improving efficiency.

The Korean data center market is emerging as a core asset in the alternative investment market, driven by growing AI demand, supply constraints, and inflows of global capital. LS ELECTRIC said the agreement will enable it to secure core technological competitiveness in the next-generation data center power ecosystem.

Infineon said it will provide products and technologies in the power semiconductor sector within the scope of cooperation, and that the two companies plan to jointly advance the initiative through market validation and commercialization.
