The company said it launched the vessel in waters near Busan's Gadeok Bridge early last month. The launched unmanned surface vessel is being operated between Busan and Jangmok Port in Geoje.
The test items include artificial intelligence-based autonomous navigation, remote control, mission-system integration, and verification of stability at sea. The company said it is checking route-keeping and control performance in various environments.
Hanwha Systems said it developed the equipment through its own investment. It cited the Navy's pursuit of a maritime manned-unmanned integrated combat system as the reason for the development.
The company explained that it had undergone a rigorous verification process, including securing swarm unmanned surface vessel technology. Yu Mun-gi, head of Hanwha Systems' Maritime Business Division, said the work lays the foundation for commercializing maritime unmanned systems.
Hanwha Systems 2027is scheduled to have its AI autonomous navigation technology and other capabilities verified by the end of the year. Based on the verification results, it aims to enter the global maritime defense market.
