Court Suspends Effect of Fair Trade Commission's 'Same Person Designation' for Coupang (July 14)
The Seoul High Court suspended the effect of the Fair Trade Commission's designation of Coupang founder Kim Beom-seok as the 'same person,' halting relevant actions for now.

The court has suspended the effect of the Fair Trade Commission's designation of Coupang founder Kim Beom-seok as the 'same person' on July 14, 2026. This decision temporarily halts the execution of certain actions demanded by the Fair Trade Commission against Coupang.
The Seoul High Court's Administrative Division 7 stated that it partially accepted Coupang's request for a stay of execution against the Fair Trade Commission. The court has decided to suspend the effectiveness of the designation until 30 days from the date of the final judgment.
The court also determined that the effect of the Fair Trade Commission's request for documentation submission from Coupang will be suspended during the same period. The scope and application of this designation will be limited to the period set by the court.
The court explained the necessity to prevent potential damages to the applicant. It is reported that this was based on the possibility of suffering damages that would be difficult to recover before the judgment of the main lawsuit.
This action takes effect as of the date of the stay order, July 14. Once the date for the main judgment is determined, the stay will be maintained for 30 days from that day.
Coupang and the Fair Trade Commission are expected to continue their respective legal procedures. Any subsequent main judgment or additional measures may change the scope of the stay's effectiveness.
