Samsung Electronics, bringing forward the target for the first fab to begin operations at the Yongin semiconductor plant by 2029 years

Samsung Electronics has moved up the target for the first fab in the semiconductor cluster being built in the Yongin national industrial complex by 2029 years. The schedule change is directly tied to the timing of plant operations.

According to the industry, the Yongin cluster is expected to house a total of 6 semiconductor manufacturing plants, and the target for operations of the first fab is said to have been set for 2029.

Previously, operations had been discussed for between 2030 and 2031 years.

This schedule adjustment was6reported to have been discussed at the presidential "Mega Project Public-Private Joint Inspection Meeting" on the previous day.

The background cited is the government’s push to bring forward the overall project timetable while maintaining its stance of early development of the Yongin national industrial complex.

The industry believes that for the first fab to begin operations in2029the construction of the site must start no later than2026in the second half of the year.

The explanation is that the timing of fab construction should be viewed as2027sometime during the year.
