Interior Ministry opens resident registration card authenticity verification network to electronic financial businesses (Naver Pay, Kakao Pay, Toss)

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety 7 month 9 day expanded the resident registration card authenticity verification network to electronic financial businesses, enabling simple payment providers such as Naver Pay, Kakao Pay, and Toss to check for forged or altered resident registration cards.

Previously, banks were the primary users of the authenticity verification network, but under this measure, electronic financial businesses can also access the system to check whether resident registration card photos match the registered information.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety cited blocking forgery and strengthening identity verification as the purposes of providing the authenticity verification function to electronic financial businesses.

On the same day, 7 month 9the police raided Kakao Pay’s headquarters over allegations of customer information leakage. The raid was carried out as part of the investigation.

Electronic financial service providers will be able to link their customer identity verification procedures with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s authenticity verification network to screen out suspected cases of forgery or tampering.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that on 7 month 10 it had selected Boseong County as an outstanding institution in disaster management evaluation. This is Boseong County’s 7th selection as an outstanding institution.
