Business6groups, Samsung Electronics18demand withdrawal of the strike lasting days

The Korea Enterprises Federation, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Korean Industries, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Federation of SMEs, and the Korea Federation of Middle Market Enterprises issued a joint statement on18day. They called on Samsung Electronics’ union to withdraw its strike plan, saying the issue should be resolved through dialogue.

Business6groups said a strike by Samsung Electronics’ union would shake the foundations of a key national industry. They said the union was maintaining its existing position despite efforts by the government and the National Labor Relations Commission, and expressed deep concern over the announced strike.

The business community said Samsung Electronics’ union had announced a18day general strike. It said that if the strike goes ahead, production disruptions could occur. It warned that this could damage confidence in global supply chains and lead to a chain of work stoppages at partner companies.

Economic 6groups said the government should immediately invoke its emergency adjustment authority if a strike becomes a reality. Emergency adjustment authority is a system under which the government intervenes in labor disputes expected to cause substantial damage. The business community also expressed concern about a decline in the semiconductor industry’s competitiveness.

The business community claimed that a large-scale strike was being pursued at a time when global demand for AI semiconductors was growing. It also emphasized that Samsung Electronics accounts for a significant share of a core national industry. It called on the union to withdraw its strike plans and pursue mutually beneficial cooperation.
