Server CPU market 5growth forecast, Intel and AMD to benefit

In its latest report, Bank of America 2030forecast that the global server CPU market will reach 1700more than billion dollars. The report assessed that demand for server CPUs would rise substantially as the era of AI agents takes hold. It pointed out that this expansion in demand would bring changes to the existing GPU-centric structure.

The report 2025put the server CPU market size at 350billion dollars. This figure is significantly higher than the previous forecast of 1250billion dollars. The report explained that the scale of growth was greater than initially expected.

The report explained that agentic AI autonomously performs multistep tasks such as searching emails, adding calendar events and executing code. It assessed that sequential processing and data input-output performance are important for these tasks. The report said that, as a result, more processing tasks are becoming better suited to CPUs than GPUs.

The findings of a joint study by Intel and Georgia Tech were also cited in the report. The study suggested that up to 88% of the total latency when running agentic AI is caused by bottlenecks in the CPU. The report said resolving this bottleneck is a key challenge in server design.

The report forecast that NVIDIA's GPU monopoly structure would ease. Instead, it specified that traditional x86 leaders Intel and AMD, as well as companies with Arm-based designs, would be among the beneficiaries. The report said it raised its investment rating for Intel by two levels, from “underperform” to “buy”.
