The government announced 2026年 7月 8日 a plan to institutionalize ESG disclosures, mandating listed companies with consolidated assets of 10trillion won or more to disclose greenhouse-gas emissions from 2028. The number of listed companies subject to the requirements was reported to be 291companies. Disclosure items include greenhouse-gas emissions and related data. The implementation date is from 2028.
This announcement was introduced as the first step toward mandating the disclosure of companies’ environmental information. The disclosure method and detailed items are expected to be specified through additional guidelines in the future. Companies must establish systems for measuring greenhouse gases and collecting internal data for disclosure.
Financial companies and securities firms are also strengthening related internal training. On 2026年 7月 9日, KB Securities invited science communicator Orbit to hold a special lecture on the climate crisis and ESG for employees. The event was intended to educate employees and emphasized strengthening capabilities to respond to disclosure requirements.
Government announcements and financial-sector training are separate matters, but they are proceeding as part of the same broader trend. Companies and investors should carefully review notices on the scope of disclosures, preparation schedules, and internal management systems.
