Ministry of Economy and Finance completes generative AI hackathon, selects prototypes for public use

The Ministry of Economy and Finance 6 month 10 through 12 completed a hackathon to identify generative AI services held at the Narakium Taean Training Center and selected outstanding prototypes, it said on 6 month 14. The ministry explained that it expects the results to contribute to improving the efficiency of public administration and reducing the budget.

The competition was held to introduce generative AI into the Ministry of Economy and Finance's core administrative functions, including economic policy, taxation, state-owned property, international finance, and the management of public institutions. Each bureau and office of the ministry submitted 25 innovative projects, and after preliminary screening, 15 projects advanced to the finals.

The entries received close mentoring from the Ministry of Economy and Finance's AI advisory group and produced prototypes at a level that could be used immediately in the field. Many prototypes capable of on-site testing were developed.

The outstanding projects selected included an automatic card-news generation service using press releases, an AI system to streamline state-owned property management, an automated service for drafting routine audit review opinions, and AlioAI Plus, an AI guide integrating information and services from public institutions.

The press release-based automatic card-news generation service reads departmental press releases, automatically creates card news, and posts it on the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s social networking services. The Ministry of Economy and Finance expects the service to help reduce costs and ease the workload of staff in charge.

The AI system for streamlining state-owned property management was designed to automatically analyze extensive state-owned property data and the government’s policy direction so that the results can be used to establish state-owned property policy directions. The automated routine audit review opinion service analyzes requested materials and existing review opinions to provide a function for creating drafts of review opinions.

Through the competition, the Ministry of Economy and Finance confirmed its aim of making public administration work processes more intelligent and discovering innovative services that the public can experience. The possibility of future adoption and the schedule for pilot implementation will be decided through separate procedures.
