2026year 7month 8day, KOSPI plunged 8% amid increased foreign selling, triggering a circuit breaker. As a result, some trading was temporarily suspended that day, limiting investor orders.
On the same day, KOSDAQ fell below the 800level intraday and recorded a closing 785.00. This decline in the KOSDAQ Composite Index resulted from concentrated selling pressure during the session.
The KOSDAQ index fell by 46.23points that day, with the decline reaching 5.56%. As a result, KOSDAQ fell below the 10-month 800level.
In response to a sharp shift in trading, simultaneous selling sidecars were triggered on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ. The exchange’s sidecar measures imposed restrictions, including the operation of single-price after-hours trading for some stocks.
Some large-cap stocks rebounded toward the end of the session. SK hynix contributed in part to the index’s recovery, showing strength in the 4% range just before the market close, while the KOSPI showed a move back toward the 7,700line.
The timing of the resumption of trading and any additional measures will be announced through exchange disclosures. Brokerage firms advised investors to check announcements from the exchange and disclosures from individual stocks.
