LG Energy Solution selected as operator, accelerating efforts to resolve grid-connection backlogs through distribution-network ESS
LG Energy Solution has been selected as the operating company, launching the distribution-network ESS project. The consortium secured a total of 140 MWh, while the government will invest 2030 billion won in national funds by 5,586.

The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced on 7 that it would fully launch a support project for constructing distribution-network energy storage systems (ESS) to resolve renewable-energy grid-connection backlogs in the Honam and Jeju regions. Once ESS facilities are installed on site after LG Energy Solution is selected as the operating company, solar power awaiting connection can be linked to the grid.10: the grid connection of solar power awaiting connection will become possible.
In this tender, a total of 9 companies participated, and 32 distribution lines were selected.
LG Energy Solution, together with Shinhan Asset Management, secured operating-company qualifications for 7 distribution lines in Jeonbuk Province through the “Sunlight Distribution Network Energy” consortium.
The consortium will install an ESS of 4MW and 20MWh per line.
The consortium’s total secured capacity is 28MW and 140MWh.
With this equipment, the consortium will newly connect 40MW of solar power awaiting grid connection to the grid.
The government plans to invest 2030in government funds by 5,586hundred million won.
This is the first government-led project to support the deployment of AI-based distribution-grid ESS.
The selected organizations include LG Energy Solution, SK Eternix, HD Hyundai Electric, VPP Lab, KEPCO KDN, Gridwiz, Korea East-West Power, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, among a total of 9organizations.
The relevant review results showed that the operator that adopted Samsung SDI battery cells secured the largest volume.
